Enjoy a wonderful traffic-free cycle on The Shannon Blueway If you’re looking for adventure or a relaxing way to take a break, Leitrim has it all!  From the traffic-free, scenic bike trails along the Shannon Blueway and Shannon Erne Blueway to the quiet country roads, there’s truly something for everyone.

The Shannon Blueway is a traffic free cycle route along the Lough Allen Canal between Leitrim Village and Drumshanbo Village crossing the iconic Acres Lake floating boardwalk, (20 Km round trip).  The fantastic Shannon Erne Blueway route runs from Leitrim Village to Kilclare and is the perfect trail to take if you want to enjoy the scenery, but don’t have the time for a longer trip, (10 km round trip).  Explore the serenity of Leitrim’s natural landscape and enjoy its unspoiled beauty before delving into fabulous restaurants to sample the delicious local produce Leitrim has to offer.

Up to 30 Km of traffic free cycling on the Shannon and Shannon Erne Blueways with regular bikes, electric bikes, childrens bikes, child double buggies and child seats available. Prices for full day hire is €20 for adult regular bikes, €40 adult only electric bikes, €12 for childrens bikes ( 12 and under), child double buggy (1 year olds to 6 year olds) and €5 for child seats.

The Costello Memorial Chapel

In the late 1800’s, Edward Costello, a town businessman, built as a memorial and burial crypt for his late beloved wife Mary Josephine.  Edward himself was later entombed in the Chapel in one of the largest funerals held in Carrick-on-Shannon for the time.  The Irish “Taj Mahal”, it is the smallest chapel in Ireland, measuring only 16 ft x 12 ft, and reputedly the second smallest in the world. 

St. George’s Heritage & Visitors Centre

St.George's Heritage and Visitor Centre is located in St George's Church and Carrick Workhouse, Carrick On Shannon County Leitrim. The restored church, houses a well researched and exciting historical display of artefacts and interpretive material depicting the twin traditions of Leitrim from ancient Gaelic roots through Plantation times up to Leitrim’s contribution and Sacrifice in the Great War.

The Dock Arts Centre

The Dock Arts Centre is housed in the beautiful 19th Century former Courthouse building overlooking the majestic river Shannon. This wonderful building has been wonderfully restored into Leitrim’s first integrated centre for the arts. The Leitrim Design House

The Leitrim Design House is recommended by the Craft Council of Ireland as one of the leading craft and design outlets in the country. This unique centre is housed in The Dock, a beautiful 19th century Courthouse building, located in the heart of Carrick-on-Shannon. The Famine Workhouse, Attic and Graveyard

Along the historical stroll through Carrick-on-Shannon, you will visit the Famine Workhouse and Attic Memorial. The Workhouse opened in 1842 to accommodate 800 people, it was soon over run by the destitute who, with little food, soon became the victims of The Great Famine. Just a short stroll from the Workhouse is The Great Famine Commemoration Graveyard which was opened in 1849 when the local graveyard could no longer cope with the large number of deaths.

Directly across from The Landmark you will find Linear Park; a beautiful riverside park area with cycle paths and paths to wonder along. There is a Boardwalk that extends out over the River Shannon with wind chimes that provide a mystical musical backdrop. You'll find families of swans, the new Marina, beautiful flora and ample seating where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings.

 

Carrick on Shannon Golf Club

The Golf Club is situated on the outskirts of the town of Carrick-on-Shannon – the cruising capital of Ireland. The golf course, a parkland course constructed to the highest USGA specifications, is located by the banks of the Shannon, patrolled by the Argina Mountains and is simply spectacular. It is an ideal location for your golf outing, be it a sociable fourball, society or corporate outing.

It is an excellent 18-hole course with delightful diversity of scenery. The new nine holes were built on land that sweeps down to Drumharlow Lake and the Boyle River creating some spectacular views of the lake and river.

Moorlands Equestrian Centre is a family run riding school based on the shores of Lough Allen, in the heart of Co. Leitrim. Tullyboy Farm

Tullyboy Farm is a family run real working visitor farm in a beautiful setting around a Georgian farmhouse and buildings with mature trees and lake views on the Roscommon and Leitrim border between Boyle and Carrick on Shannon.

The attraction offers fun, educational and cultural activities for families, and all types of groups in a safe environment.   There is a whole range of activities available, from miniature tractor barrel rides, straw dives for goodies, playground, lots of animals to get up close to and hand feed and cuddle, tractor trailer rides (if sufficient numbers permit), pony rides by lead rein (when available). Strokestown Park House

Strokestown Park is a unique historic property in Co. Roscommon in the west of Ireland and is the home of the first landlord to be assassinated during the height of the Great Famine of Ireland the 1840s. A guided tour of the House gives an intimate insight into life in the Big House, upstairs and downstairs surrounded by the original furnishings.
