Perhaps you are visiting the region for a romantic get-away with your beloved ( to quote local wordsmith, a certain Mr. Michael Harding ) and you are looking for things to do in the region during your stay. Read on for some inspiration…

The Dock
Just a five-minute walk from The Landmark Hotel is the town’s wonderful arts centre, The Dock. Located at the end of the historic St.George’s Terrace, The Dock is housed in the former court house, which has been repurposed as an intimate black box theatre, stunning three rooms of gallery space and a cosy café. You can check out their website to see what’s coming up when you are here. Open Monday to Friday 10-5pm and on the evening of performances, The Dock has plenty to offer.
Check out their website here : www.thedock.ie

The Leitrim Design House
Located in the same building, the stunningly elegant Leitrim Design House is a thriving, long established and beautifully situated showcase for Irish craft workers and designers. All Irish made and representative of the talent to be found in contemporary craft, the Leitrim Design House is a destination not to be missed in any visit to Carrick-on-Shannon, particularly if you are looking for a gift for someone special in your life.

Lough Key Forest Park
An evening stroll through the grounds of the former King-Harmon estate of Rockingham, now Lough Key Forest Park, is a delight mostly experienced by the locals. Tree lined avenues and pathways through the woods, late summer’s evening sunlight on the lake waters, and views out to the wooded islands all make for a romantic evening. And even if it rains, the canopy of trees can provide plenty of shelter on your stroll. Located only 8 miles from the front door of The Landmark Hotel, this is an accessible stroll for everyone.

Cryan's Teach Ceoil
Looking for something a bit more upbeat? How about a traditional Irish music session, only a stone’s throw from your hotel. Cryan’s Teach Ceoil is a Mecca for music fans. From traditional Irish, to Blue Grass and Jazz,  you might even find some revellers taking to the dance floor, in this traditional Irish pub which has been  ‘serving up the best pints and sessions since 1956’.

The Hot Box Sauna
And finally, to help you rejuvenate after the hectic day-to-day reality of real life, why not venture a little bit further west, to the beaches of Sligo. The Hot Box Sauna situated right beside Sligo Yacht Club on the edge of the beach at Rosses Point provides a 45 minute session in the traditional Finish Wood Burning Sauna. With two-tiered seating and panoramic ocean views, this sauna offers a unique, healthy and memorable experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed.  It will help you warm up after an exhilarating dip in the Atlantic ! Less than an hour from Carrick on Shannon, you will not be disappointed.
